When students struggle with technical subjects, it often reflects weaknesses in their understanding of underlying concepts. My 25+ years of teaching experience enable me to ascertain a student’s weaknesses and to work with them to improve their conceptual understanding and associated skills. Improved understanding in turn leads to improved performance. Students will then also find it easier to absorb new material.
I am a former university professor of theoretical chemistry and the recipient of two teaching awards. I started tutoring students in technical subjects in college, finding my dorm room full of fellow students seeking help on the chemistry lab, and I’ve been teaching students ever since.
I tutor primarily at the 8-12th grade level in math, chemistry and physics. I support student performance by promoting understanding of key concepts and skills, by tailoring explanations to individual learning styles, and using active engagement to develop students’ problem solving skills.
